The Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center is a youth center and afterschool program named after our founder's son, killed in 1989 in a drive-by shooting. The Wooten Center provides a safe and nurturing environment where boys and girls ages 8 to 18 can participate in academic enrichment programs and recreational activities exploring a world of opportunities.
The Wooten Center has come a long way since 1990 when our founder, Myrtle FayeRumph, opened the center with four pre-teen boys. The challenge of serving hundreds of youths annually at our site and several middle and high schools in South Los Angeles and enhancing our offerings for these bright minds demand that we continually upgrade our programs and services.
